Cathy Guisewite, born Sept. 5, 1950. Cartoonist. Her comics were syndicated in 1976 as Cathy.
Cathy was one of the first mainstream comics about and written by a woman. It plays off (and into) gender stereotypes, poking fun at the main character's obsession with her weight, mom, food, clothes, and boyfriends. Cathy is usually on a diet, and perpetually ten pounds overweight.
